Welcome to My Website!

I'm Barbara Lampert, and I have been a licensed psychotherapist since 1990.

I love being a psychotherapist and consider that work a calling. Since I was very young, I’ve had a natural curiosity about people and have liked helping them feel better. People have regularly told me what’s bothering them and their secrets, which I’ve considered a privilege to be part of.

I love seeing people come to life, come out of depressions and anxious states, and gain greater awareness of how to work through no-longer-useful patterns of behavior and thought. In essence, how to choose a more fulfilling way to live.

My primary focus in therapy is to address the concerns my clients present to me and while doing that to provide them with a positive and rewarding therapeutic experience. I do that by listening attentively, being engaged and empathetic. Additionally, I am direct and bring energy and enthusiasm to my work, which tends to motivate and inspire.

Common issues addressed in my practice are:

>  Relationships

>  Anxiety

>  Depression

>  Addictions

>  Grief

>  Pet Loss

>  Career

>  Crisis Intervention

>  Personality Disorders

>  Life Transitions

>  Creativity

My Other Passions

Besides my work as a psychotherapist, I am passionate about dogs, gardening, writing, and reading. I love all dogs, and I’ve lived with dogs most of my life, mostly Golden Retrievers, for me the most empathic, joyful, loving breed of all. And I love all aspects of gardening, from raking to landscape design, the miracle of growth, the garden’s beauty. I’ve always been an avid reader. One of my favorite authors is Anne Tyler. I love Hermann Hesse too. There are so many good writers. I also read medical journals and am very knowledgeable about medicine, both Western and Eastern.

My Books

About eleven years ago, I authored my first book, Charlie: A Love Story, about one of my Golden Retrievers, Charlie. It contains many implicit messages about how to live a good life, have a great relationship, and care for another being. But mostly it’s about an indomitable dog and our extraordinary relationship.

You can find out more about Charlie’s story here.

And now I’m in the process of publishing my second book, Happy Harry: A Magical Golden, about another of my Golden Retrievers. This time, the story of this Golden is about the happiest being I’ve ever known. It’s about how he prances through life, with an attitude we all would be fortunate to have, facing life head-on with his wonderful, very happy spirit. Life throws some pretty hard knocks at Harry, but he responds to them like gnats going by. I’ve never seen anything like it. Harry’s special, and his story is unforgettable.

You can find out more about Harry’s story here.
